David Bland-Parker Hornet
My name is David W. Bland and I was born without a left arm from the elbow down. I have been hunting and fishing for the last thirty years. Since my early teens I have been an avid bowhunter. I’ve never used anything other than regular compound bows. My father fabricated a homemade attachment out of an aluminum lawn chair leg that bolted onto the riser of a bow and a tin can that my arm slid into. Over the years, according to my growth, we have modified the original. The can that my arm slips into is now a hard plastic drinking mug. The lawn chair leg is now two pieces of aluminum dowels that adjust to the correct draw length and tighten down with nuts and bolts. I have a friend that machined a piece of solid aluminum that fits where the hand grip would be. I shoot a Parker Hornet with a twenty eight inch draw at sixty pound draw weight. I chose Parker Bows because their lightweight, short axle to axle Hornet still shoots 293 fps at my set-up. I shoot five grains per pound with Carbon Express Maxima (250) 3-D select arrows, with 85 grain G5 Montecs. My release is a T.R.U. Ball Tornado. I use TRUGLO sights with a Quality Archery Designs Ultra-Rest Pro Lock Down rest. With all the advancements in hunting technology over the past few years, I now have the chance to hunt with the confidence I need to be successful year in and year out. In the off season me and several of my friends attend weekend 3-D shoots (indoor and out). I usually get a lot of looks when I arrive at a shoot, but after people see me shoot a few times they treat me like one of them. I live in rural North Central West Virginia, where the restrictions on deer harvest are not that tough. An eight point buck with 1-inch brow tines is usually considered a trophy. I know this letter sounds like a product endorsement for several companies, however each product I used, helped me to feel normal while I fulfilled the lifelong dream of landing a nice buck. I just wanted to say thank you, for putting out a product that gives me the chance to succeed, when it should not be possible.
