Karen Courchesne

Hooksett, NH

My bear hunt took place in Northern,NH over bait. It was an overcast afternoon sprinkling off and on.

I saw 2 juvenile bears around 5:30pm which I decided to pass up. They left very quickly like they were spooked. At 5:50pm the big guy came in directly to my treestand within 10 ft. of the base of my tree looking up at me (NO PRESSURE THERE !) then went back to the bait.

The shot was a 18 yard shot quarting away a little, the shot was about 6-8 inches from the front shoulder.

Once I shot, the bear took off like a rocket. By the time I reached to hang my bow up the bear gave a loud growl & it's last breath. My knees and hands were shaking by this time.

I drove back to the camp, my husband knew something was up because it was about an hour before it got dark. WE got some of our friends & went looking for the bear. It only went 25 yards.
