Carson National Forest - New Mexico -
Harvested with Parker Buck Hunter
I just got back from Carson National Forest (area 52) with my dad on my first Elk hunt ever, and what a trip! After hearing elk bugles everywhere for the previous 5 days and not seeing much of anything, I decided to try my luck at calling them in with a bugle of my own while walking back to camp. To my (and my dads) surprise, 3 bulls responded almost immediately. Whats more, the closest one sounded to be only 75 yards away! We both scrambled for cover, me running up the hill we were on and my dad going back along the trail. As soon as I got down, I notched my arrow and attached my release, just in time to see a bull and a cow on the trail we were just at. The cow sensed some danger and turned tail and ran, but the bull held steady at 35 yards long enough for me to get a solution for a double lung shot with my Parker Buck Hunter. After a clean through shot and 200 yards, this 6x6 was down.
Thanks,
